Advantages of Sound Bars

So you’ve purchased a new flat-screen, hi-end TV and have had it mounted beautifully on your wall.  Great!  Then you turn the thing on, and sit back in your plush sofa to watch a movie or a football game.  And to your shock, the sound quality is, shall we say, underwhelming.

Common problem.  What’s going on?  Well, it’s simple: the speakers in most TVs are small, inadequate, and often aimed in the wrong direction.  Since a big part of the television experience is audio, you could be short-changing yourself on what could have been a wonderful experience.

Advantages of Sound Bars

Sound Bars are supplementary audio units — speakers — that are add-ons to your TV.  Essentially what they do is provide a luxurious audio component to your overall entertainment experience.  They don’t take up much space, and, in fact, don’t demand anything close to the space required for the typical home-theater system.

Sound bars are typically housed in a single casing, called a cabinet.  Many sound bars are manufactured by the same company that makes your TV, and thus, they often have a certain visual compatibility with your TV, but there are plenty of instances where using a sound bar made by a different manufacturer that made your TV is appropriate, if not preferred.

Sound bars are made by lots of firms, including Vizio, Martin Logan, Sonos, Sony, Atmos, Zvox, Samsung, and many others.

Sound bars can be set up quickly and easily, especially by a professional.  They don’t take up a lot of space, as they are usually rather short, about the width of the fattest portion of a baseball bat, and they come in various widths, perhaps a couple of feet wide up to perhaps six feet wide.  And the combination of amplification plus sound processing merge to provide a beautiful sound in a compact unit.
